A woman has allegedly been sexually assaulted by teenagers during a “sickening and harrowing” armed home invasion.

Three teen boys entered the house at Manunda in Cairns about 3.30am this morning, threatening the occupants with a knife and demanding property.

A female resident was reportedly taken into a separate room and sexually assaulted.

The trio fled on foot, and two of the boys were arrested on McCormack Street about an hour later.

“I’ve just been briefed,” premier David Crisafulli said from the city this afternoon.

“The allegations are sickening and harrowing, and I want Queenslanders to know that bringing justice to this family and the state is my number one priority.

“I don’t think crime anywhere in the state is acceptable at the level it is, but in the far north at the moment it’s horrendous and it’s ripping the heart and soul out of a beautiful part of the state.”

Two teens remain in custody and investigations are continuing.
