Wrong-way driver killed in head-on crash with semi on I-80 in Minooka: Illinois State Police​on January 24, 2025 at 6:13 pm

A wrong-way driver was killed in a head-on crash with a semi on Interstate 80 in Grundy County early Friday morning, Illinois State Police said.   

All lanes have reopened after being shut down for nearly six hours.

Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly wrong-way crash on I-80 near Ridge Road in Minooka, IL early Friday morning.

MINOOKA, Ill. (WLS) — A wrong-way driver was killed in a head-on crash with a semi on Interstate 80 in Grundy County early Friday morning, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said the crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-80 at Minooka Road just after 12:40 a.m.

A car was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it collided with a semi head-on, ISP said.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the semi was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Westbound I-80 was closed at Ridge Road as ISP investigated for nearly six hours. All lanes have since reopened.
