Where are the human rights of people with disabilities going?

First no access to meaningful employment. Then no affordable, inclusive housing. Now barriers to education, too?

This is a crisis of equity. People with disabilities deserve the same opportunities as everyone else — to learn, to work and to live in their communities. This steady erosion of rights and inclusion must stop.

THE BLIND TRUST ISSUE

I guess the meaning of a “blind trust” is self explanatory, but I fail to see what difference it makes; after all, Mark Carney would know where all his investments lie and certainly push for policies that would lean towards supporting those investments; even his puppets would make sure of that.

While almost every prime minister in recent decades has had a few investments that required some way of keeping them at arm’s length, we have never seen it to the extent of Carney’s massive portfolio. I am not sure how you address this issue, but it certainly seems ripe for manipulating.

Maybe I am being too cynical; after all, we are talking about politicians who we all know have the highest ethical standards.

THE TARIFF DILEMMA

Given the tariff dilemma the world is facing, perhaps there might an opportunity to see it all from a different angle. Let us say, for conversation purposes, we look at the following methods to deal with the situation:

1: No tariff for all CARICOM nations;

2: A basic minimum tariff of, say, 10 per cent;

3: Have a dialogue with like-minded nations about what kinds of tariffs should be imposed or proposed;

4: Have a world conference on this very hot topic, bringing the best and brightest to the table. I am sure the conference would be well attended with fine recommendations.

That’s it from me and I leave it to the experts, but I do say strongly we should not have a tit-for-tat mind frame because that would lead to more conflicts.
