CLEAR MY WINDROWS, PLEASE

I recently read that Mississauga will be removing the windrows from the end of taxpayers’ driveways for the equivalent of $21 per taxpayer. I don’t know about you, but I would gladly pay an extra $21 to remove the huge snowbanks at the end of my driveway.

This past winter, I usually shovelled my driveway by hand (I am 66 years old) and I only used my snowblower when the amount of snow was excessive or the pile of snow at the end of my driveway was simply too big or too water-logged to manage with my shovel. Great exercise and fewer greenhouse gases.

I would think that all the climate change activists in the city would welcome the elimination of all the pollution generated by all the inefficient, gas-powered snowblowers in the city for the small cost of $21. Furthermore, I would think that, as more of the citizens of Ottawa age, they would more than welcome this extra expense. I know that I would!

TRUMP HONEST, BLUNT

I do not suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome. I thought his recent speech was the most honest, blunt assessment of the United Nations, immigration and “climate change,” among other things.

Compare that to the meaningless jargon coming from Mark Carney. I’m sick of Carney running to the U.K. while purposefully damaging Canada’s prosperity by not dealing with the United States.

Also, when Carney declared, “Canada recognizes Palestine,” he instead should have said, “I, Mark Carney, recognize the state of Palestine.” He does not speak for me.

TWO CENTS FOR CUPW

It seems to me that the Canada Post union, in trying to drum up support from the population of Canada, is going about it the wrong way. I don’t purport to have the solution, but we are tired of being held hostage by the union going on immediate strikes for whatever the latest slight might be. Canada Post is only going to continue losing customers, and they will not return when they can’t rely on the service.

But, having said that, there still are a lot of small charities and companies that do need Canada Post. Case in point: My wife has an envelope at the front door waiting to be mailed to a small charity that does not have the funds or the means to have a website for donations. There are lots of these in smaller communities that are being hurt by these constant strikes.

So, I’m just not sure the union is going to get the support it is looking for.

Just my two cents, which will buy you nothing, so make up your own mind as to your opinion on this.
