Well, isn’t that rich. For the last 10 years, the Liberals have done everything but play nice, and now they expect the other parties to do as they say and not as they’ve done.

The decisions and policies made by the Liberals both past and present have been anything but nice to Canadian taxpayers. They’ve made promises they have no intention of keeping in order to fool the electorate into believing they care. They don’t. We are simply a means to an end, and once Canadians wrap their heads around that the sooner we can stop their hidden agenda.

Hard choices need to be made, and, if the Liberals think the other parties are just going to roll over and rubber stamp everything they come up with, they need to think again. So many times bad things have been slipped into legislation and then, when the opposition parties don’t want to pass it, they are the ones blamed for the good things in that legislation that don’t come to fruition.

KNEE-JERK REACTION TO TRAGEDY

Bad laws originate from many sources. One such source is ill-considered, knee-jerk reactions to a particular event. The Ontario government’s decision to ban parking adjacent to entryways, windows, playgrounds and other areas at all but private-home daycares is a case in point.

While the recent tragic incident in Richmond Hill resulted in a toddler’s death and other critical injuries, one incident is hardly reason to go nuts by banning certain parking spots.

Has the government even considered the unintended consequences? With all the areas to be off-limits to parking, what space is left? Where does this leave daycare operators without space to relocate parking, and who, with lost spots, will fall below bylaw mandated numbers of parking spots and/or have no money in already stretched budgets to pay for parking lot modifications?

This “fix” clearly has not been thought through. It appears to be nothing more than unproductive action simply to be seen as doing something. Surely with the collective intelligence in the Ford cabinet it can divine more effective solutions to more pressing issues than a once-in-a-century unfortunate accident.
