Thank you for your heartfelt article, Joe (Warmington). I fear for the future because of the severe decline of our social fabric and the good that used to be the norm in Canada.

I have witnessed, over my almost 70 years, evil and greed as the motivation for our political leaders and mainstream media instead of honesty, truth and integrity. Their priorities are narrow and selfish. They are cold and heartless and couldn’t care less about what they are doing to our once great country.

The world wars showed Canada’s strength. Our soldiers were brave, unselfish and strongminded. They, and those citizens who stayed behind, had faith and hope for the future. They should never be forgotten for their sacrifice and service.

THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED

Re: ‘Lest We Forget’; While many abandon the poppy, Grapes wishes you’d wear one, Nov. 11; and Why banning the poppy in Canadian courtrooms betrays what veterans fought for, Nov. 11

If we restrict and/or stop the tradition of wearing poppies, then 100,000-plus Canadians died (in the two world wars) in vain.  We will remember them!

SACRIFICED FOR OUR FREEDOMS

Re: EDITORIAL: We must keep faith with those who died, online, Nov. 9

Truer words were never spoken as the freedoms we enjoy today were obtained fighting two world wars, shedding a river of blood and costing many lives. Sadly those sacrifices are often not being taught about enough in our schools as many are newcomers to Canada.
