Wow, it doesn’t seem to matter how much taxpayers are suffering, politicians seem to think we should make sure they can live well. I don’t agree with any salary increase for either the mayor or city councillors as they get pretty well paid as it is.

One councillor (who said she was undecided on whether councillors deserved a raise) said she compared her salary to that of MPPs and MPs and thought this might justify an increase. Sorry, but running a city of just over one million is not even close to running a province of over 16 million or a country of about 42 million.

This city has been run haphazardly for years now. We’re running a huge deficit, transit is a mess, crime is out of control and our infrastructure is in horrendous shape. So giving anyone a raise is a hard no from me as a taxpayer.

DON’T DEBATE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER PAY

Recently, CBC had a report on volunteer firefighters fighting forest fires in Newfoundland and Labrador. If not for the courageous work of volunteer firefighters, these wildfires, which seem to be more prevalent each year, would do more devastation than one could realize.

The kicker is that, while these volunteers are out battling fires, they need to leave the places of work where they collect wages. In Newfoundland, they are currently debating about what the compensation should be for these volunteers.

Seriously, they are out fighting fires, not thinking of themselves, and there’s a debate going on about their compensation? What nonsense. There should be no debate, no hesitation on this matter. Their wages should remain as if they were on holiday.

If this is the case for all volunteer firefighters, it is insane.

DONE WITH ONTARIO ELECTIONS

I have absolutely no intention of ever voting again in any future Ontario provincial elections. After years of disasters like Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne for the Liberals, and now Doug Ford, there is no point in wasting my precious time. Also, forget about an NDP government.

I heard talk of Ford possibly pining for the leadership of the federal Conservatives. What a joke. Not happening. He has proven time and time again he is an outright phoney.
