I’m not a Jew, I’m not a Muslim. Nor am I a Buddhist or a Christian. One more thing, I’m certainly not equipped to offer an intelligent and well-thought-out opinion on the never-ending troubles in the Middle East, or any other areas of the world for that matter. The only information I have comes from the media. In most instances, the media is either biased or ill-informed.
Young Ms. Yao’s valedictorian speech contained a very short, perhaps afterthought comment on the Israeli, Gaza and Iran turmoil. In my opinion, for what it’s worth, a valedictorian speech is not the time or place to broach the topic. Opinions like that, at the very least, must be fair in their presentation. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Go to Israel, go to Iran, go to Gaza and see what it’s all about. Be objective, and then — and only then — make a comment. But please, refrain from making ill-informed comments from the warm and cozy confines of a high school gym in a country that has absolutely no knowledge of what hard times are.

CAN’T MISS IT? SCRAP IT
Re: The CBC ‘ratings,’ letter to the editor, June 19
The letter writer said Matt Galloway on CBC’s The Current is can’t-miss radio. He is so woke it makes me nauseous! The one per cent who like the CBC are not enough to warrant spending about $1.5 billion a year of taxpayers’ money. Scrap it!

NO MORE ERASING HISTORY
There seems to be growing support for completely cutting ties with the monarchy, and some of those people seem to think this would somehow make us a more legitimate, independent country.

The way I see it, the country was founded by Britain and France, with Britain ultimately gaining control after the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. So just like Sir John A., Britain is part of our identity, and by removing all ties we would also be erasing part of our history.
I don’t care about the monarchy, but I do not want any more of our history removed or whitewashed, and that would be the ultimate outcome.
