It’s appalling that another Conservative MP has crossed the floor to join the Liberals. This is totally undemocratic and should not be allowed. They were duly elected as Conservatives by their constituents and have now sold them out.

I believe there should be a byelection in both those ridings. I don’t know what Mark Carney is promising them, but it must be good. It doesn’t say much for our democratic values.

SHOULD BE IMMEDIATE BYELECTIONS

I have a Christmas wishes for former Conservative MPs Chris d’Entremont and Michael Ma. May they both receive coal in their Christmas stockings and may electors in their ridings show them the door in the next election.

There should be a parliamentary rule that, if an MP switches parties, an immediate byelection is held in his or her riding. This would give electors an opportunity to reward the traitors sooner rather than later for the betrayal of their wishes.

THE SOUND OF SILENCE

In the last year, I have really noticed that there are some major flaws in our political system. No, I am not talking about specific politicians. I am talking about our political process.

For about 45 days, Mark Carney was granted the power to run our country despite never having won an election. Now we have individual politicians who have won elections representing one party changing parties.

People often vote based on their preferred party and not necessarily based on an individual candidate. Would that same politician have won their seat in the first place had they represented another party? We really don’t know. So why are politicians allowed to change parties and not have to face re-election for their seat now that their ideology has changed?

By allowing politicians in power to freely move from party to party, our system has, in effect, silenced the voice of the voters.
