I’m not one to make public statements, however, after reading Lorne Gunter’s column I decided to share my thoughts on EVs.

Recently, I was returning to Ottawa from a visit to Sudbury. Highway 17 east was closed at Corbeil; there was simply a sign saying “Emergency Road Closure.”

As it turns out, I had a 3.5-hour detour to get home. One of my first thoughts as I realized my misfortune was, thank God I don’t drive an EV. The detour took me through some very isolated areas where there were no gas stations, let alone a charging station.

I will never consider owning an EV.

TIME TO DIG IN ON NATURAL RESOURCES

Re: Energy independence is true ‘nation building,’ editorial, June 24

Kudos for your excellent editorial that states how expanding global access to our oil and gas resources will make Canada a stronger nation. Justin Trudeau turned down requests from several allies for our LNG, saying no business case could be made. Had he acceded to those requests, Canada today would be in better economic condition and the Trump tariffs would not be as economically impactful.

Instead, the Trudeau Liberals irresponsibly spent $200 billion on useless climate change projects. That included giving billions to foreign companies to build electric batteries for EVs that few Canadians were buying while leaving natural resources in the ground. That ideologically driven move saw hundreds of billions in foreign investment lost.

Let’s hope Prime Minister Mark Carney starts doing what is best for Canada by the exploration of its national resources.

HERE’S A JARRING REALITY, CNN

Last week on CNN, Erin Burnett recalled being in Tehran years ago. She said all around her people were chanting “Death to America.”

Burnett said when she told the people she was an American reporting for CNN, they were happy to speak to her. She then went on to say, “Those two are sort of jarring realities of the chant and yet the friendliness have existed together.”

Here’s a jarring reality for CNN: That’s why they’re called sleeper cells.
