DALLAS — Five people were shot and three of them died from their injuries in West Dallas, police said.
The shooting happened Monday shortly before 11 p.m. at Canada Drive and Gulden Lane, near the Trinity River and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, according to a police news release. Just minutes later, another shooting was reported near Children’s Medical Center Dallas. The two incidents were connected, Dallas police confirmed.
Officers responded to the call at 10:55 p.m. in the 3100 block of Gulden Lane and found that a shooting happened between two groups of people. Five people were shot in the incident, police said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue took three victims to the hospital where one, 18-year-old Abdulla Al Badry, died, DPD said. One victim was treated and released and the other, 19-year-old Joshua Soriano, died from his injuries, according to DPD.
DPD said that as the investigation progressed, officers discovered that two other victims drove themselves to the hospital, where one was treated and released and the other, 20-year-old Osvaldo Gutierrez, died.
According to DPD, detectives determined the shooting happened following an argument between the two groups. Two people were arrested: Manuel Alvarez, 18, and Fernando Sanchez, 19. Both are being charged with murder and aggravated assault, Dallas PD said.
