More than half-a-dozen knives have been found on a man in Brisbane.

Officers searched the 49-year-old from Kangaroo Point on Logan Road in Stones Corner just before 4pm on Thursday.

The man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 28 after eight knives in a paper shopping bag were recovered, along with a bank card police believe was stolen, and two ziplock bags full of cannabis.

The busts followed the release of data revealing the widespread use of new police wanding powers.

The Queensland Police Service figures show 92,201 people were searched across the state between April 2023 and January this year.

More than 31,000 of them were children.

Among both adults and minors, 2505 people were charged with 4533 offences.

The new powers – set to be made permanent by the Crisafulli government – were introduced after the stabbing death of teenager Jack Beasley at Surfers Paradise in 2019.
