RCMP in British Columbia are asking Calgarians for help as they investigate a homicide that occurred in the Shuswap last year.

The investigation pertains to the murder of 38-year-old Matthew Monteith, who was shot Feb. 24, 2024, in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel in Sicamous, B.C., just off the Trans-Canada Highway.

“The initial investigation leads us to believe this was an isolated, targeted incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public,” an RCMP news release stated at the time.

The British Columbia RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, which until Saturday, had not revealed Monteith’s identity as the victim, according to a report by the Sicamous Eagle Valley News.

RCMP previously said a black Mercedes G-Wagon was seen fleeing the scene after Monteith’s murder and was last known to be travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway. But few details on the case have been released since.

On Thursday, officers executed a residential search warrant in the southeast Calgary community of Auburn Bay in relation to Monteith’s murder, Mounties said.

Calgarians with information about the case are asked to contact the B.C. Southeast District Major Crime Unit Information Line at 1-877-987-8477.

“We’re asking for anyone with information related to the circumstances of Matthew Monteith’s death to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Smart in a B.C. RCMP news release issued on Saturday. “Any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, may be of great interest to the investigation and help to determine what led to his death.”
