GARDAI are probing if a dangerous criminal caught with a handgun is linked to a feud in Tallaght.
The gangster – who previously shot a Garda – remains in custody after he was arrested on suspicion of possessing a handgun in suspicious circumstances in the south inner city area of Dublin around 10pm on Thursday night.
His arrest comes just a week after officers from the Community Policing Team in the A District recovered a pistol in the Bluebell area of the capital.
He was lifted after the car he was travelling in tried to evade unarmed, uniformed Gardai from the A District who were on patrol.
The gardai followed the vehicle as it drove into a cul-de-sac.
The hood bolted from the car and attempted to hand a coat to a female associate.
But when the gardai arrived they discovered the handgun and ammunition inside it.
The man was later arrested and one theory being explored is that it is linked to an ongoing feud in Tallaght.
One source said: “This man is very dangerous and has been involved in organised crime for many years.
“He previously injured a guard in another firearms incident and isn’t afraid to use firearms.
“His associates are currently involved in a feud in Tallaght and it could have something to do with this.”
