History museum reopens, other services still affected by Gatineau watermain break

The Canadian Museum of History reopened to visitors at 1 p.m. Wednesday after being closed following a watermain break in Gatineau on Tuesday.

The CINÉ+, the Gift Shop, the Canadian Children’s Museum, and the parking garage were also open again during regular hours.

However, the Panorama Café and Second Cup remained closed for the day Wednesday.

An estimated 3,000 people remained affected by a watermain break in Gatineau’s downtown, the city said Wednesday.

The city said the break affected “all buildings located on Laurier Street, between Sacré-Coeur Boulevard and Hôtel-de-Ville Street.”

The buildings without water service include Maison du Citoyen, the Portage 1 and Portage 2 office buildings as well as the Sheraton Hotel.

“Access to these buildings may be affected,” the city said in a release Wednesday. “For more information, please contact these institutions directly.”

Services at the Maison du Citoyen (library, art gallery, tax counter, municipal court, etc.) were cancelled for the day, and the building was closed.

The city’s executive committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, was to be conducted via Microsoft Teams on the Web.

The city said it would provide updates on any further changes.

There was no update on repair work on the damaged water system.
