‘Keeping secrets is hard’ admits RTE’s Doireann Garrihy as she lifts lid on pregnancy and ‘weird’ symptoms

RTE star Doireann Garrihy has broken her silence following her huge pregnancy announcement.

THE Dancing with the Stars presenter, 32, said herself and her partner Mark Mehigan were “beside themselves with joy” as they announced the news this morning.

Taking to Instagram, the parents-to-be shared their scan photos and said: “We are beside ourselves with joy. Here’s to the greatest chapter yet.”

In sweet pictures, comedian Mark placed a protective hand over Doireann’s stomach and punched the air in delight as the broadcaster beamed with happiness.

And as Doireann took to the airwaves on her 2FM show this afternoon, the star spoke out about her exciting baby news for the first time.

Speaking to her co-hosts Hugh Carr and Taran O’Sullivan, Doireann said: “Obviously I’ve been keeping a secret from you for the past few weeks.

“I wanted to just blurt it out so bad and say, ‘I am nauseous yet again, is there anymore crackers around, is there anything to be said for a few cream crackers’.”

The mum-to-be revealed that in the early weeks of her pregnancy she has experienced some strange food aversions.

The Dublin star told listeners: “It’s mad really because I am allergic to crackers now. Like I would have been a four coffees a day person and just like that I’m allergic to coffee, the smell of it, everything, tea as well, ew, just gone.”

She added: “And also my favourite thing in the world was eggs, but ugh, I can’t eat eggs now.”

The radio host even admitted that her emotions have been high, claiming that she’s found an “irrational hatred for things”.

Doireann continued: “I hated my couch at home, the shape of it, the way I felt in it, it was horrendous I wanted to burn it.

The star finished off by adding: “But anyways keeping secrets is really hard.”

Doireann and Mark tied the knot during an intimate ceremony at The K Club in Straffan, Co Kildare in December of 2024 after getting engaged in November 2023 after just one year of dating.

In the first snap shared from their special day, the newly weds held hands and smiled from ear-to-ear as they walked down the aisle together after saying their ‘I do’s’ in the church ceremony.

The pair met after Mark’s cousin John John, who is a producer on 2FM, told Doireann that he was going along to a gig of the comedian, who has The Sunday Roast podcast.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Intrigued, Doireann soon found her self looking up his Instagram.

After some hesitation Doireann slid into his DM’s by sending him a smiley face – which led to Mark eventually inviting her to a gig.

She later recalled how nervous Mark was on their first date, which led Doireann to go straight in for the kill and ended up eventually kissing him first.

Speaking about the first date recently, Mark said: “I texted one of my friends after our first date, and I was around 13 months sober, and was like, ‘That’s the first time in the last 13 months that I haven’t felt like an alcoholic’.”

“I don’t really like the phrase ‘when you know, you know’ because this is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before in my life, and Doireann is like nobody I’ve ever met before in my life.

“But there’s sides of myself that I’m showing her that I wasn’t even aware that I had.”
