Knife-wielding man arrested in Lake County after threatening multiple people, police sayon March 9, 2025 at 10:12 pm

A man was arrested and charged after threatening multiple people with a knife in unincorporated Round Lake, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Authorities responded to a residence in the 35800 block of North Hillside Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

Officials forced entry into the residence and saw several victims running from the suspect, 29-year-old Juan A. Carranco-Salinas. Sheriff’s deputies said they then found Carranco-Salinas at the top of a stairway with a 9-inch blade. Carranco-Salinas was ordered to drop the blade, which he did before trying to open a locked bedroom door with several victims inside, officials said. When he refused to comply, deputies said they then used a Taser to subdue Carranco-Salinas and take him into custody.

Authorities said they later learned that Carranco-Salinas threatened people in the residence after a woman denied his sexual advances. Police said that Carranco-Salinas offered the woman money in exchange for sexual favors, but when she refused, he became violent. Others in the home tried to restrain Carranco-Salinas but were unsuccessful. Carranco-Salinas then grabbed a kitchen knife and began chasing people inside the residence, authorities said. No one was stabbed or injured.

Carranco-Salinas is being charged with six counts of domestic battery and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police said he is being held at Lake County Jail, and the Lake County state’s attorney’s office plans to petition to have him detained until trial.
