A 66-year-old Lethbridge man has been charged in relation to an alleged sexual assault of a child at a public swimming pool in the city earlier this month.

Police responded Feb. 10 to a report that an 11-year-old boy had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male at Stan Siwik Pool, located along the 1900 block of 15 Avenue North.

“Investigation determined the male approached the child in the men’s changing room and sexually assaulted him,” said Lethbridge police in a Wednesday news release.

After police investigated further, a male was identified and arrested without incident on Feb. 11.

Lethbridge resident Quan Phuoc Tran, 66, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference, and is scheduled to appear in court March 25.

He has been released from custody, but may not attend Stan Siwik Pool or any other public park, swimming area, daycare, school ground, playground or community centre where children could be present. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the victim and any other child except for immediate family members.

After further investigation, Lethbridge police believe there could be additional victims. As part of its ongoing investigation, police have released a photo of Tran in an attempt to encourage unidentified victims to come forward.
