It’s sad that Hudson’s Bay, with a history of more than 350 years, is closing. We’re hearing that there will be no severance pay for the employees losing their jobs but, lo and behold, there’s a plan to give “retention bonuses” to upper management so that they don’t look elsewhere during this shutdown, lest some miracle should happen to keep things open.

My question is, why would a company want to retain upper management who have literally run your company into the ground? Am I missing something here? Should the miracle happen, the first thing I would do is get rid of those responsible for putting my business in this position in the first place.

This is the problem in both the public and private sector: the little guy gets shafted while those higher up rake in the dough even when they screw up.

WHO’S JUST LIKE TRUMP?

So Mark Carney constantly accuses Pierre Poilievre of being just like Donald Trump, and yet Poilievre talks about cutting taxes for consumers and businesses while Carney has said he is going to put tariffs on any country that does not have a carbon tax or does not have a carbon tax that is high enough in his opinion.

Liberal voters need to open their eyes and really see who is Trump 2.0.

(We’re likely stuck with one or the other of them after the election, hopefully neither is like Trump.)

A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP?

The Canada-U.S. relationship reminds me of the friendship between the oxpecker and rhinoceros. The oxpecker eats the parasites, ticks and insects infesting the big guy. He stays healthy and the bird has a continuous supply of food.

This leads me to a question about President Donald Trump. OK, here goes: Did he lie? Well, did he? Has Canada not used its friendship (?) with the U.S. for everything from defence of the country/free world to border security to trade? Could we not be best described as freeloaders? You know, occasionally you might be the rhinoceros, but in most instances you’re the bird!
