Mark Carney became prime minister March 14 and as you stated, Premier Smith, his six months are up. To date he has not met any of your conditions, not one. You have just finished the Alberta Next town halls and I assume your team is on its way to Ottawa in the very near future. I wish you luck as Alberta has been talking to federal governments about Alberta’s rights, including Conservative ones, for 50 years since Pierre Trudeau’s National Energy Program. I don’t expect more discussion on this will bear any fruit, but I wish you luck. Now that massive layoffs are happening in the oil and gas sector, what are you prepared to do when talks go nowhere?

Unions a problem
Let’s talk about unions, the poor employees’ saviour. Always holding us hostages during holidays. What business can lose millions a day and still survive? When you go to an emergency clinic, simply because it’s a Saturday and you can’t see a doctor for three weeks, and it takes six hours to get a script. When you go to the DMV, it takes three hours to renew your licence. Do these people deserve raises? A simple question, they have no boss, except the taxpayers. Well, we are saying, “No! Do your job better!”

Right decision
(Re: ‘Court rejects Brentwood killer Matthew de Grood’s bid for more freedom,’ Calgary Sun, Saturday, Sept. 27.) An excellent decision made by Alberta’s highest court to keep Matthew de Grood safe and sound (away from the general public) in the provincial hospital in Edmonton. Basically, his fate was sealed in the early morning hours of April 15, 2014. Although de Grood may appear to be harmless today, it is the heavy-duty meds that is keeping him meek and mild as a lamb.

Walked out? Cut the funding
Re “Canada not part of mass walkout” (The Canadian Press, Sept. 26): Every country that walked out on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the UN should immediately be cut off of any foreign aid. Respect in an organization that is supposed to keep peace and stability in the world is critical, and if they can’t show it to other members, they should be kicked out and left to fend for themselves.
