AHS said Thursday that people who were at the following seven locations during the specified dates and times might have been exposed to measles:

  • Lethbridge’s Bigelow Fowler Clinic West on May 14 from about 11:20 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • Medicine Hat’s Home Depot on May 16, from about 12:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on May 17, from about 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Lethbridge’s Real Canadian Superstore on May 17, from about 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Medicine Hat’s Boston Pizza on May 17,  from about 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Medicine Hat’s Swirls Ice Cream on May 17, from about 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Medicine Hat Regional Hospital emergency department on May 18, from about 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Claresholm General Hospital emergency department on May 18, from about 5:40 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Anyone who attended these locations at these times, who was born in or after 1970 and has fewer than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine, may be at risk for developing measles,” says AHS.

“They should monitor for symptoms of measles and are strongly encouraged to review their immunization records.”

Alberta now has 538 known measles cases, including 33 new cases, as of noon Thursday. Of those 538, 72 per cent have been in the south zone while 17 per cent of cases have been in the central zone and seven per cent in the north zone. The Calgary zone has had 12 cases and the Edmonton zone six.

Earlier this month, the Alberta government, alarmed by the worst outbreak of measles in decades, announced measures designed to increase vaccination rates and a public awareness campaign urging Albertans to get vaccinated.

Medical experts say herd immunity would require 95 per cent of Alberta’s population to be immunized, but the province has not reached that.

Vaccination rates are particularly low in southern Alberta, with numerous communities in the south having vaccination rates of less than 50 per cent in 2024.

As of May 17, 89 per cent of the people with confirmed measles cases were unimmunized, according to the province’s measles dashboard, which also shows an increase in all zones of measles containing immunization doses being given in 2025, particularly this spring, compared to the past two years.
