WYLIE, Texas — Part of the southbound side of State Highway 78 was shut down and several businesses evacuated Monday as police investigated “suspicious items” found in Wylie, officials say.
Police were called to Texas Dollar Pawn & Gun in the 1000 block of N. State Highway 78 shortly before 9 a.m. after receiving a report of a person dropping off a 55-gallon drum and propane tank near the shop, officials say. The scene remained active around 11:30 a.m.
“Upon arrival, police requested the assistance of Wylie Fire Rescue to assist with investigating the hazardous material,” according to a press release from police. “After a quick assessment, nearby businesses were evacuated and the southbound side of Hwy 78 was shut down near the area.”
Mutual aid was requested while police and fire investigated the incident.
WFAA helicopter footage showed a law enforcement presence on the scene investigating.
