Since January 1 in the British Columbia city, to end of November 2025; city cops took a total of 8165 calls for service, up two percent from 8004 calls for service in 2024.
The current file load differential from city to rural is approximately 80/20.
“Of those 8165 files, 6661 of the calls for service were within the City of Dawson Creek and 1503 calls for service were within the rural surrounding area, including the Village of Pouce Coupe.”
While thefts of vehicles are slightly down in 2025, thefts from vehicle calls jumped from 69 last year to 106 this year.
All assault offences in Dawson Creek are consistent from last year; 222 in 2024 and 217 this year.

“We’d like this to be zero, not the world we live in.”
Hughes added a handful of high-profile offenders are in custody.
“Most of our people are in jail right now.”
Impaired Driving (alcohol and drug), 24hr Suspensions, Immediate Roadside Prohibitions see a 14% increase from last year with 119 charges in 2025.
Motor Vehicle Collisions are down from 360 in 2024 to 270 this year. Hughes said the impaired charges likely affect the collision numbers being down.
“Efforts on one end, pay dividends on another, he said adding property crime and Mental health related issues remain the majority of calls for service,.” he said adding unspecified assistance files continue to take most of the day to day resources of the detachment.

“These are the calls for service that are not related to any “offence” such as suspicious occurrence or suspicious activity reports.”
He noted the Dawson Creek Citizens on Patrol Citizens on patrol have been busy putting in hours and covering many kilometers while reporting suspicious activity to the RCMP.
“The program is vital in assisting the RCMP with extra eyes and ears in the community.”
Hughes’ attendance at Rural Crime Watch and C.O.P.S. are continuing in attempt to recruit in new members as the group’s look to increase patrols and available personnel for special events. Hughes noted gang enforcement units were recently deployed in South Peace.
