Arrests in a suspected smash-and-grab break-in at a southeast Calgary vape store led police to charging three people with a string of other burglaries throughout the city.

In the early morning hours of April 2, police say they were alerted to a break-in at a vape store in the 900 block of Heritage Drive S.E. where culprits had shattered the door to gain access and steal items.

Officers on patrol located the suspects 15 minutes later in a Honda Civic and took them into custody, said CPS.

“Upon further investigation and a review of evidence collected from the scene, the suspects were also connected to several other commercial break and enters, where individual(s) smashed through the front of the business to gain entry,” police said in a press release.

Police determined the suspects were responsible for burglaries at vape stores in Bowness and Forest Lawn, a pharmacy on High Street S.E. and a bar in the 1400 block of 52nd Street S.E.

The crimes date back to Jan. 3. Police say two of the suspects also took part in shoplifting at a business in the 300 block of 36th Street N.E. on Jan. 13

Charged with five counts of break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and flight from police is Cory Mitchell King, 51, of Calgary, who has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 9.

Calgarian Gloria Michelle Bignell, 31, is charged with three counts of break and enter, possession of stolen property and theft under $5,000. She’s been released from custody. She is to appear in court May 7.

Marnie Johnston, 50, of Calgary is charged with one count of break and enter and was issued a summons under the Traffic Safety Act. She has been released, with a court date of May 9.
