Wrong-way crash on I-5 near JBLM kills one, shuts down traffic for hours

The crash shut down Interstate 5 for more than five hours before the road reopened around 5 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

A Pierce County teen was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide after the 17-year-old allegedly drove the wrong way, crashed into another car and killed a woman on Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord late Thursday.

The crash shut down northbound I-5 for more than five hours before the freeway reopened around 5 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

The 17-year-old male was reportedly driving a 2013 Nissan Titan pickup going south in the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Highway 512. The truck crashed into a northbound 2000 Honda Civic, according to WSP. The female Civic driver died.
