A dispute over toll payment in Rajasthan led to an altercation at a toll plaza on National Highway 68. Toll workers allegedly threw stones at a Scorpio car after its occupants bypassed the toll without paying the fee. One stone hit the driver, causing the vehicle to overturn. The car accident left one dead and two injured.
The accident occurred as a group of seven friends from Barmer district were travelling towards Jaisalmer’s Sam Sand Dunes to celebrate the New Year. They had earlier attended a local fair in Chauhtan. The group refused to pay the toll fee at the Shiv toll plaza and drove away. According to police, toll workers informed their colleagues ahead, who threw stones at the approaching vehicle near Jaisalmer.

A 22-year-old passenger, Kailash, died on the spot. Two others, Mukesh, 20, and Omprakash, sustained injuries. Mukesh, who suffered severe injuries, was referred to another hospital, while Omprakash is receiving treatment at Barmer Medical College Hospital.
“Seven youths from Padardi were travelling to Jaisalmer after visiting a fair. They did not pay the toll at the Shiv plaza. Stones were allegedly thrown by toll workers, leading to the accident. CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation,” said Dinesh Lakhawat, station officer at Shiv Police Station.
Kailash’s relative, Padam Singh, confirmed the incident, calling for accountability. “This should never have happened. We hope those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
