Boy, 17, charged with attempted murder of CPD officers on South Side

A teen boy is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly firing shots at Chicago police officers in South Chicago on Sunday night, CPD said.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A 17-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly firing shots at Chicago police officers on the city’s South Side on Sunday night, CPD said.

The incident occurred at about 7:33 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood’s 8200-block of South Coles Avenue.

Officers were responding to a disturbance and as they approached multiple people, police said a suspect took out a gun and fired at the officers.

Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot, and two-17-year-old boys were later taken into custody.

One of the teens is facing three counts of first degree attempted murder and one county of unlawful use of a weapon.

No officers fired their weapons and no injuries were reported, police said.

Two guns were recovered, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
