According to Hialeah police spokesman Jose Torres, officers responded to the home in the 3900 block of West 10th Court around 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting.

A neighbor told Local 10′s Hannah Yechivi that she heard what sounded like a gunshot and then saw a body on the ground outside.

“I heard a shot, opened the door, and when I came out, a man was running,” Yeika Castro said in Spanish. “I knew something had happened because, for me, it was a kid running.”

Torres said officers discovered that during the dispute, a male had armed himself with a knife and attacked a man who is in his 50s.

According to Torres, the victim’s 16-year-old son witnessed his father being attacked and intervened. He sustained multiple cuts to his arms as a result, authorities said.

Torres said the armed male then began to exit the home, at which time another person, who was armed with a gun, shot at the suspect, killing him.

Torres said both victims were hospitalized after the attack. The teen was transported to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where he is listed as stable, and his father was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The person who shot the suspect was detained for questioning, but it’s unclear whether he will face charges.

After the attack and shooting, detectives were spotted at the scene searching for clues, including inside trash cans, trying to fully determine what happened.

The identities of those involved in the incident have not been released.
