Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday yet again raised concerns about falling birth rates in India and urged citizens to learn from the mistakes of countries like South Korea and Japan, where birth rates have dropped significantly.

Addressing a gathering in Chittoor district, Naidu highlighted that Kuppam’s birth rate has fallen to 1.5, below the ideal rate of two, signaling a worrying trend. He emphasised that a nationwide discussion on population management should begin immediately.

The Chief Minister pointed out that many couples are reluctant to have children, prioritising personal wealth over family growth. “Had your parents thought like that, would you have come into this world now?” he questioned, recalling that childlessness was once considered a stigma.

Echoing his comments from last year, Naidu warned of the challenges posed by an aging population, stressing the need for population management. He stressed that with a demographic dividend until 2047, the focus should be on nurturing younger generations, while ensuring sustainable population growth thereafter.

Naidu, who represents the Kuppam constituency, unveiled the Kuppam Vision-2029 document, which outlines a roadmap for comprehensive development in the region. He also launched the Swarna Kuppam vision, inspired by the state’s SwarnaAndhra@2047 initiative, aimed at making Kuppam a model of prosperity.

The Kuppam Vision-2029 document focuses on ten key principles, including poverty reduction, employment generation, population management, water security, and farmer welfare. The vision also includes adopting advanced technologies and enhancing education and skills development to ensure a bright future for the constituency.
