A boil order is in effect for north suburban Skokie after a water main break at East Prairie Road and Emerson Street, officials said.
Officials said the break occurred about 5:15 a.m. and warned against drinking tap water without boiling it first.
Some residents reported very low water pressure or no water at all, officials said.
Bottled or boiled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation, officials said.
Traffic will be affected as roads have been closed at McCormick to Dempster to Golf and East Prairie from Church to Golf.
Crews were working to repair the damage Friday morning.
