A WOMAN in her 60’s has been charged over a crash involving a bike and a car that left a male cyclist dead.
She is appearing at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning at 10.30am charged over the crash on the Malahide Road at Kinsealy in Dublin on February 18.
The woman was charged following garda investigations into the crash after a car and a bike collided shortly before 9:30am.
A man in his 40’s, John Walsh, was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in the capital after the incident but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Gardai said that the woman has been charged but added that investigations into the crash are ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Gardai said: “Gardai have charged a woman in relation to the investigation of a fatal road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a car that occurred on the Malahide Road, Dublin on Sunday, 18th February, 2024.
“The woman, aged in her 60s is due to appear before Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 4), this morning Friday 21st February, 2025 at 10.30am.”
They added: “Investigations ongoing.”
Walsh was a married dad-of-three who has been remembered as an “absolute gentleman” by loved ones.
UCD Cycling Club said: “With the deepest of sorrow we pay tribute to our valued club member John Walsh who died yesterday from injuries he sustained in a crash with a driver in Kinsealy.
“John has been in the club many years and was a crucial part of the club’s activities especially during his time as a student when he was club captain, and had taken out his licence to race again in the club colours this year.
“We will deeply miss John who was always to be seen ripping up the corners of Mondello on a Tuesday night.
“Our sincere condolences to John’s wife, children, family and friends. May the wind be always at your back, RIP.”
One friend said: “I am so so sorry for your loss. I was in Belvedere with John.
“He was an absolute gentleman, so smart, friendly and an all round great guy. It’s very sad news for all in OB 2001. Huge loss. May he rest in peace.”
Another mourner added: “Myself and John were school friends in Belvedere.
“I look back on school friendships and can see how much of a genuine person John was, a truly great friend, and a gentle soul, kindhearted and thoughtful.
“This news is simply heartbreaking.
“My thoughts and love go to out to Olivia and John’s children Andrew, Rowan, and Morgan, his parents siblings and all his extended family. May John rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”
John is being laid to rest today.
