Former Tyrone and Dublin stars are to come out of retirement for a special charity challenge match in aid of the victims of Israel’s war in Gaza.
The teams of 2011 will roll back the years on Saturday March 22 at O’Neills Healy Park in a ‘Game for Gaza’.
The event is being organised by Gaels Against Genocide in Gaza, a grassroots group formed to oppose the continuation of the tragic events in the Middle East.
The proceeds will go towards Unicef, the Red Cross and the Gaza Paediatrician Care Initiative, an effort aimed at bringing badly injured Palestinians to Ireland for treatment.
The game will re-unite players from the Dubs and Red Hand teams that met in the 2011 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final at Croke Park.
Dublin came out on top by 0-22 to 0-15 and went on to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time in 16 years with a late Stephen Cluxton free that gave them a one point win over Kerry in the final.
That triumph marked a reawakening and the beginning of a spell of dominance by Jim Gavin’s exceptional team, which included six All-Ireland titles in a row between 2015 and 2020.

The class of 2011 included greats such as Bernard Brogan, Diarmuid Connolly, Paul Flynn, Cian O’Sullivan, James McCarthy and Mick Fitzsimons, who proved too strong for a Tyrone team powered by Sean and Colm Cavanagh, Stephen O’Neill, Joe and Justin McMahon, Conor Gormley, Philip Jordan, Brian McGuigan and Owen Mulligan.
And the occasion will also feature a reunion of the Dublin and Tyrone teams that contested the 1995 All-Ireland final, members of which will renew acquaintances at the post-match dinner in the Omagh clubhouse and take part in a chat show.
Tickets for the event can be purchased, donations made and tables booked by contacting entertainments@omaghstendas.com.
