A popular Co Tyrone GP will be remembered as a “wonderful doctor” who treated patients with “compassion and care” following her death.
Dr Áine McShane, who was based at Moy Health Centre, and lived outside Dungannon, died on Thursday following an illness.
In a short statement posted to social media on Thursday, a spokesperson for Moy Health Centre said: “It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague Dr Áine McShane.
“Áine passed away this morning surrounded by her loving family at home.”
Patients and friends posted tributes to Dr McShane, who was a mother-of-two, and spoke of her love of work and helping patients throughout her career.
Ellen Dickson wrote in a post: “Deeply saddened to hear this. She was a great doctor, very knowledgeable, thorough and took time. Knew I was in safe hands when i got an appointment with her. Thinking of her family.”
Mary McIlvenna said: “Every interaction I had with Dr McShane always had patient care at the centre of everything. Her loss will be felt within the Moy community and further afield.”
Charlene Irwin said Dr McShane was a “wonderful, empathetic GP who touched many lives in such a positive way, including that of my family”.
Former colleague Cheryl Bleakney said: “She was a beautiful person, so kind and such an exceptional doctor who cared deeply about her patients.”
A death notice described Dr McShane as the “beloved wife of Tony Duffy and cherished mother of Aideen and Oonagh,” adding she was the “treasured sister of Francis, Anthony and Eithne and daughter-in-law of Patricia”.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday at Dungannon’s St. Patrick’s Church.
