Linfield women’s manager Ryan McConville is pursuing action against the Irish Football Association after being excluded from a top level UEFA coaching course.
Mr McConville, the team manager since 2023, believes he was unfairly treated after being denied the chance to pursue the UEFA Pro-Diploma qualification, also known as pro-licence.
Mr McConville, who has argued he “met all the criteria for the course” but that he did not have a “big name”, has hired Jamie Bryson as a legal consultant.
An Irish FA spokesperson said: “We refute any allegations of discrimination. We are in dialogue with the individual and will make no further comment at this time.”
Mr Bryson, in a statement issued on behalf of Mr McConville, said he is “commencing legal proceedings” against the IFA.
“Our client complied will all procedural and administrative requirements within the application process,” he said.
“He passed the first round, was informed he was to participate in the second round and then without further explanation, was excluded from the very same second round.
“This is a matter of significant concern.”
