A routine, early morning traffic stop has led to Lethbridge police charging two southern Albertans with drug offences.

Police said Tuesday they seized fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as recovered stolen property, following the Monday morning traffic stop.

Just after 3 a.m., Lethbridge police were in the 3500 block of 2nd Avenue S. on an unrelated matter when an officer saw a driver commit multiple traffic violations.

Police pulled the vehicle over and ran the licence plate, discovering the plate didn’t match the vehicle.

The man driving the vehicle had a Canada-wide driving prohibition, and the female passenger was wanted on an outstanding warrant, said police.

“During a search incidental to arrest, police seized 200 doses of fentanyl, 620 doses of methamphetamine, more than 130 narcotic pills, nearly $1,000 cash proceeds of crime and recovered a stolen e-bike (owner identified),” said Lethbridge police in a Tuesday news release.

Claresholm resident Adam Richard Filipcic, 35, is charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, trafficking in stolen property, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He was also issued tickets for seven traffic violations. After a bail hearing, Filipcic was released from custody and is set to appear in court April 17.

Brocket resident Kerry Lynn Grebely, 34, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, failing to comply with release order conditions, and obstructing a peace officer, for providing a false name. After a bail hearing, Grebely was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 1.
