AUSTIN, Texas — Legal disputes between current Kansas City Chiefs and former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy and his ex-fiancée appear to be coming to an end.
Court records show that Worthy’s lawsuit filed against his ex-fiancée Tia Jones, as well as a request for a protective order, has been dropped. Jones is also aiming to dismiss a protective order she filed against Worthy.
Worthy was arrested by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on March 8 on a charge of assaulting a family member by impeding their breathing or circulation, a third-degree felony in Texas. The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office later dropped the charge.
Worthy later referred to the conflict as a “misunderstanding fueled by emotional stress.”
On March 24, Worthy filed a lawsuit against Jones, alleging that she assaulted him and stole or destroyed more than $150,000 in cash and property.
In his lawsuit, Worthy alleged that Jones fabricated the allegations of abuse and that she became enraged after he asked her to move out of the home they were living in. He says in the lawsuit that Jones assaulted him, ripping out his hair, and destroyed his game room.
Worthy, who is originally from California, spent three years playing football at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was named First-Team All-Big 12 twice. He was also the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2021 after catching 12 touchdowns in 12 games for the Longhorns.
The Chiefs then selected Worthy 28th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He finished his rookie season with 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing 20 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Worthy became the first Texas Longhorn to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. He would also break the NFL rookie record for most receiving yards in the Super Bowl, previously held by receivers Chris Matthews of the Seattle Seahawks and Torry Holt of the St. Louis Rams.
