SHANE LOWRY fell agonisingly short of his first PGA Tour win since 2019 after a tense final round at the Truist Championship.
The Irishman claimed tied-second place in the Signature tournament, just one week ahead of the season’s second major at the PGA Championship.

World number 17 Sepp Straka secured his second win of the season after a thrilling final day at Philadelphia Cricket Club, as the Offaly ace and his Ryder Cup pal traded shot for shot.
Lowry led by one after the opening hole, having carded a birdie.
But Austria’s Straka stormed ahead with an eagle at the par-5 fifth, followed by birdies at the 8th and 9th. However, bogeys on 10 and 11 brought the pair level heading into the closing stretch.
Justin Thomas lurked behind but faltered late, missing a short putt on the par-5 15th and bogeying the 16th. He signed off with a 67, finishing on 14-under for the tournament.
It wasn’t to be for the Clara native either as some silly errors cost him dearly.
A poor tee shot on the 16th left him scrambling, and after lipping out for par, Straka’s steady par gave him a one-shot lead with two to play.
Both players parred the 17th before late drama on the final hole – statistically the toughest on the course.
Straka found the left fairway bunker, while Lowry’s drive struck the hospitality stand. Fortunately, it hit the top of the tent, and he was granted free relief from the rough.
Incredibly, both reached the green. Straka left himself a 20-footer, while Lowry pushed his birdie putt left and then missed a eight-footer for par – costing him also a sole second place finish.
The Austrian calmly rolled in his par to claim a two-stroke victory — and his second title of the 2025 season, following January’s win at the American Express Championship.
Straka finished his week with a -16 total as Lowry finished two-strokes further back alongside Justin Thomas.
It will be a frustrating one to take for Lowry after he also finished runner-up to pal Straka at the 2022 Cogniznant Classic.
Rory McIlroy finished T7 after a -2 par round to sit on a total on -10.
But it’s full steam ahead as the second major of the year gets underway at Quail Hollow on Thursday.
