A Perth man who was travelling from Chidlow to Kalgoorlie has not been seen in nearly three weeks, as police ask for the public’s help to find the father-of-two.
Paul Lamp, 54, travelled to Northam on Friday, May 9, where he stayed overnight. The following day it is believed he got cash out and purchased a small amount of food from a Northam supermarket before travelling to Kalgoorlie later that afternoon.
He was then seen on CCTV at a business in Kalgoorlie, wearing an olive green T-shirt, dark blue training pants, and thongs.
It’s believed he travelled back through Coolgardie that afternoon, but no further sightings have been confirmed.
Superintendent Mick Kelly said Lamp’s mobile phone last pinged on Saturday, May 10, providing a search radius of 1600 square kilometres.
“There’s no indication [what he was doing in the area] that’s why the family are seeking the assistance of the public, there’s great concerns for his welfare … if he does hear this or see this particular message, please reach out to your family,” he said.
“Mr Lamp, like some of us, did show an interest in the prospecting shows, but there’s no information, and inquiries with local prospectors that are out there at the moment, and prospecting shops, have not indicated anything to suggest he may have purchased equipment to go.
“There’s no suspicion of criminality … when Mr Lamp was younger, his family have come to this area, but why he has chosen to come out to Coolgardie is really not known.”
Police and the SES have searched the 1600 square kilometre area, with officers suspending the search at the weekend.
His family and friends have been frantically looking for Lamp, organising their own searches.
Lamp’s wife, Yasmin, thanked the police and community for their support so far.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we want to sincerely thank you for your unwavering support in the search for Paul,” she said.
“Whether you joined the search, spread the word, shared information, provided meals, offered expert guidance, or kept us in your thoughts — your kindness and generosity have given us strength and hope.
“Every effort big or small, has been a source of comfort amid uncertainty and heartbreak. Your compassion has truly helped guide us through this challenging time, showing us the best of humanity.”
Lamp was driving a blue Nissan Navara with the registration plate 1HNT 095.
Anyone with information about Lamp’s whereabouts are asked to contact police immediately on 131 444.
