To celebrate the date and the company’s 98th anniversary, 7-Eleven stores will again hold Free Slurpee Day, giving out small Slurpees from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. today (or until the machines run dry).
The flavor options will expand as a customer favorite returns to the Slurpee machines starting today, the convenience chain said. That’s the blue-colored pineapple-berry blend, Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl.
And for fun, select 7-Eleven locations will give out temporary tongue tattoos shaped like the Slurpee’s signature S that are activated when you sip a Slurpee. The “Tongue-too Takeover” color choices are blue, green, red and purple.
Members of the 7-Eleven rewards club will get a second free Slurpee, with the online voucher redeemable through July 31.

— If you’re a kid at heart with a long memory, you’ll recall that the ICEE predated the Slurpee. According to Wikipedia, 7-Eleven purchased the ICEE technology invented by Omar Knedlik in Kansas.
