The FBI is briefing the media with the latest information regarding the senseless shooting death of Charlie Kirk at his “The American Comeback” tour stop at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
Investigators confirmed Thursday morning the shooting was a targeted event and they have footage of the shooter — a male.
They also have a timeline of his movements, from the time the suspect entered campus at approximately 11:52 a.m., to the roof of the building from which he shot Charlie.
They know the gunman fled the roof and into a nearby neighborhood as well.
Robert Bohls, the special agent in charge of the F.B.I.’s Salt Lake City office, revealed authorities retrieved what they believe to be the shooter’s rifle — a high-powered, bolt-action rifle — from nearby woods and have a palm print, forearm imprint and a “footwear impression” that will be sent for analysis.
Bohls said the suspect “blended in well” with college students and appears to be of “college age.” He noted they will not be releasing a further description at this point as investigators continue to scrub through footage.
Plenty of questions remain about the entire incident — including where the shooter is. Dispatch audio reveals responders were looking for someone in all black following the shooting, but does not confirm that is the description of the shooter.
Two people have been detained and released by authorities, and the FBI asked anyone with information to come forward. They are working with local and state law enforcement on the case.
As mentioned above, Charlie was in the middle of a tour when he was killed. He was heading to Colorado State University next.
He leaves behind his wife, Erika, and 2 young children.
