Whether he gets another shot in that spot, either next season or next week, remains to be decided.

In the last Canadian Football League game of the season at TD Place, the 28-year-old Floridian completed 27 of 44 passes for 286 yards and three touchdown passes, but also threw three interceptions as the Redblacks fell 39-28 to the Montreal Alouettes.

“Felt good to get a start, felt horrible to lose,” Adams, who has been with the organization since 2022, said after his first regular-season appearance in just over 28 months. “The only thing on my mind is winning. I go look at the film and everything, but stats don’t mean anything. The only stat that means something is the turnovers and the win or loss column. So I’ve just got to be better.”

The loss was the Redblacks’ fifth in a row and left them with a 4-13 record heading into next Friday’s season finale in Hamilton.

On the bright side (if you want to call it that), the defeat also cemented a last-place finish that gave Ottawa the No. 1 in the 2026 CFL draft.

The Alouettes improved to 10-7 and into a tie for first in the East Division with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The crowd of 20,897 included nine busloads of Alouettes fans who made the trip from Montreal.

Adams’ last and only other CFL start was June 30, 2023, against the Edmonton Elks, when he completed 14 of 20 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown in a 26-7 win while playing through a fourth-quarter knee injury that ended his season and ultimately hindered his development.

Heading into last season, the Redblacks needed a firm solution to their quarterbacking woes and settled on Dru Brown, signing the former Winnipeg Blue Bomber backup to be their No. 1 guy.

The team decided Jeremiah Masoli and Dustin Crum were better prepared to be next in line, so Adams was shuttled down the depth chart.

He remained fourth in the order this season as Brown held on to the starting job, backed up by Crum and veteran journeyman Matt Shiltz.

Against the Alouettes on Saturday, Adams missed some open receivers and threw into coverage, but he also led the Redblacks to a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns and threatened to orchestrate a come-from-behind victory until a failed on-side kick with just over a minute left sealed the outcome.
