Bengaluru is all set to ring in the New Year with celebrations in various parts of the city. To manage the crowds and law-and-order, the Bengaluru City Police have made extensive security arrangements. City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, in a press meet which he called the “last press conference of 2024”, elaborated on the preparations.

He stated that the police, based on last year’s incidents, have deployed more than 11,000 personnel to prevent any untoward occurrences. “We have identified areas where people are likely to gather in large numbers, such as MG Road and Brigade Road Junction. Accordingly, arrangements have been made,” he said.

He also said that the police have issued an advisory to people not to wear deformed or obscene masks during the celebrations, as it could scare or shock others, especially young children.

The police have also asked people not to use whistles of any kind during the celebrations to avoid inconveniencing the public.

While detailing out the security arrangements, the police commissioner also said that Bengaluru police has been successful in cracking down on drug peddling in the city. According to him, the anti-narcotics squad was able to seize drugs over Rs 2.5 crore during its operation. In all, the police captured 3.5 kg of hydro ganga, 16 kg of marijuana, 40 units of LSD strips, 130 g of charas and 2.3 kg of MDMA crystals.

He said that there was also a crackdown on the sale of cannabis and MDMA with 11 accused arrested for possession and sale of narcotic drugs.
