If BJP wins…: Suvendu Adhikari’s warning to Mamata Banerjee in Sandeshkhali If BJP wins…: Suvendu Adhikari’s warning to Mamata Banerjee in Sandeshkhali
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said if the saffron party came to power in West Bengal, it would send Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to jail for arresting the women in Sandeshkhali for protesting against the alleged misdeeds by local Trinamool Congress leaders.
His remarks assumed significance as Sandeshkhali witnessed large-scale protests earlier this year over alleged land-grabbing and sexual harassment of women by local Trinamool Congress leaders, including Sheikh Shahjahan. It also came a day after Banerjee attended a programme in the village located in North 24 Parganas district.

“If the BJP comes to power in the state (in 2026), a commission will be formed regarding the Sandeshkhali incident. Mamata Banerjee will also be jailed for arresting protesting women in Sandeshkhali,” Adhikari said.
He claimed that the Trinamool Congress government framed false charges against protesting women in Sandeshkhali and said Banerjee’s visit to the village was “just an attempt to repair the damage done”.
“They (Trinamool Congress) conducted a sting operation in Sandeshkhali to defeat Rekha Patra during the last (Lok Sabha) election with the help of the police. We won’t give those seats to Mamata Banerjee where Hindus are in majority,” Adhikari alleged.
Asserting that the area had “7,000 supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, Adhikari urged the people to vote for the BJP in the 2026 Assembly polls to make Banerjee “a former chief minister of the state”.
Adhikari, once an aide of Banerjee and a former Trinamool Congress leader, called the Chief Minister a person “with mischievous intent”.
“Mamata Banerjee had conspired for the arrest of mothers and sisters at Sandeshkhali before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. They were slapped with false charges and arrested for protesting against the atrocities by Shahjahan Sheikh. You (Mamata Banerjee) will face action for abetting such oppression if the BJP comes to power,” he said.
He claimed that the Trinamool Congress managed to win the Basirhat Lok Sabha Seat, of which Sandeshkhali is an Assembly segment, “because of Muslim votes”.
“The BJP, however, was ahead in the Sandeshkhali Assembly segment. The results of the next Assembly elections in Sandeshkhali will be in the BJP’s favour as Hindus have already consolidated. They witnessed persecution by the Trinamool Congress and would vote collectively against the ruling party,” he alleged.
Adhikari also claimed that the BJP had won from Nandigram in the 2021 Assembly polls and from Tamluk in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections “with consolidated Hindu votes”, and said this “momentum will continue”.
Accusing the Trinamool Congress of resorting to “unfair electoral practices”, he claimed that the nomination paper of late TMC MP from Basirhat, Hazi Sk Nurul Islam, was fraught with “flaws” and Rekha Patra, BJP’s candidate from Basirhat in the Lok Sabha polls, lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.
