A DESPERATE plea has been issued after a house fire left a man’s property “completely destroyed”.
The horror incident took place just after New Year‘s Day on January 2, in Co Wicklow.
Kit “Christy” Byrne was out of the house to go shopping when the fire took hold.
Kit lives in the Garden County bungalow along with his two dogs.
None of the three were injured in the fire but the blaze destroyed most of the house.
A picture shared online shows the property blackened and smoking in the middle of the night.
The three front windows have been damaged and the roof has crumbled in.
The front door has been destroyed and the picture shows devastation inside the house.
There appears to be no furniture or decorations remaining after the nightmare fire.
An emergency GoFundMe was set up to help Kit to rebuild his life following the incident.
Neighbour Noelle Shanahan set up the page on behalf of Kit and explained what happened.
The urgent appeal is called ‘Help Kit rebuild his life after devastating fire’.
Noelle said: “I’ve started this GoFundMe to raise money for my neighbour Kit (Christy) Byrne.
“On the night of January 2, 2025, a fire tore through Kit’s house while he was doing his shopping and completely destroyed it.
“There’s nothing left. Thankfully Kit wasn’t there and neither him or his two dogs were hurt.
“Kit now has to completely start over so we are hoping to raise some funds to help him.
DONATIONS PLEA
“On behalf of Kit, thank you for any donations and for all the kind offers of help that have already been offered so far this evening.”
A target of €10,000 was set to help Kit recover and rebuild.
Since then, generous donations have poured in from around the country.
Already, over half of the set amount has been raised through the GoFundMe page.
Some €6,310 has been gathered from donations, making up 63 per cent of the overall target.
The top donation out of 111 was for a whopping €1,000.
