With the ongoing scarcity of eggs across the country, police in central Pennsylvania say nearly 100,000 eggs were stolen from the back of a distribution trailer.
According to a report by the Pennsylvania State police, 100,000 Pete and Gerry’s organic eggs were stolen on Saturday from a company distribution trailer.
Police said the current retail of the eggs is about $40,000.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the Chambersburg patrol unit at 717-264-5161.
The crime comes as farmers across the country deal with the Bird Flu.
The average price of eggs is now more than four dollars a dozen.
This week, the Waffle House, a casual restaurant serving up breakfast favorites 24/7, just added an egg surcharge to its menus.
The restaurant group said the 50 cent per egg surcharge has been added due to the shortage.
