Aideen’s ‘No Small Stones’ on show in city wine bar

The work of award-winning Athenry artist Aideen Monaghan is currently on display in the city’s Daróg Wine Bar, on its ‘gallery wall’.

No Small Stones is the first exhibition of 2025 at the wine bar on 56 Lower Dominick Street and all the work on show is available for purchase.

Aideen is a graduate of the Limerick School of Art and Design and a past winner of the RDS Taylor Award.

Her practice begins with drawing, as she works to unveil the hidden beauty in the ordinary, celebrating the power of observation.

In No Small Stones, Aideen explores the intersection of human intervention and the natural world, inviting viewers to find beauty in the simplest of moments, and offering a reflection on people’s relationship with the environment.

Daróg Wine Bar regularly features work by local artists on the venue’s gallery wall. Its co-owner Edel McMahon-Lukács has a background in art and design, and wanted to have a space there where creativity could flourish.

“Each year, six exceptional artists are featured, presenting a rotating collection that spans diverse styles, mediums, and perspectives,” she explains.

Daróg was opened in July 2023 by Edel and by her husband, sommelier Zsolt Lukács, and has an emphasis on sustainability, quality, and community.  The kitchen is led by Head Chef Attila Galambos, recently awarded Best Young Chef in Ireland at the Food & Wine Awards, as well as being a three-time finalist in the prestigious Euro-Toques Ireland and a former sous chef at Aniar.

No Small Stones will run until Monday, March 3, at the Dominick Street venue.
