The Alberta government is spending $30 million to redevelop SAIT’s Taylor Family Campus Centre.

The funding, included in the province’s 2025-26 budget, will be used to improve athletic, health and wellness facilities on campus, the province said last week.

The revamped centre will provide first-year students with the opportunity to observe medical procedures in a clinical setting. Students will gain hands-on experience with real patients to ease their transition from the classroom to the workforce.

More than 900 students will benefit from this observational experience each year, leading to an increase in health program graduates with valuable hands-on experience.

“By investing in post-secondary capital funding and infrastructure, we are meeting the needs of a growing province and economy,” Advanced Education Minister Rajan Sawhney said in a statement.

Sawhney said this redevelopment project reflects a commitment to enhancing education infrastructure and equipping students with the tools and spaces to succeed.

The school’s population doubled since the campus centre was first constructed in 1981. The redevelopment will allow the institution to better serve the expanding community and support educational and professional growth across Calgary and Alberta.

The plans for the Taylor Family Campus Centre include an on-site health clinic that will provide pharmacy services. It also includes comprehensive health, dental and vision care.
