Melania Trump’s official First Lady portrait has been released and the snap has drummed up plenty of strong opinions.
The black-and-white portrait was shot in the White House’s Yellow Oval Room, the day after her husband’s inauguration and is quite the bold choice.
Melania pulled a serious face as she stared down the lens, with her hands leaning on the glass table. Many people compared the harsh snap to that of Donald’s The Apprentice headshots.
She wore a fitted black power suit matched with a crisp white shirt for the photo, with her long hair styled into brushed-out curls.
Melania noticeably didn’t wear any jewellery in the snap, which is not uncommon for the First Lady.
Melania posted the image alongside the caption: ‘First Lady Melania Trump’s Official White House Portrait.’
The comment section was filled with positive messages praising the ‘beautiful’ former model although others weren’t so keen on the photo.
The portrait appears to send a message of confidence, with a sense that Melania means serious business.
People were quick to compare it to that of Jill Biden’s 2023 photograph, which sees the former First Lady flashing a warm smile in a bright pink top.
Fans took to social media to comment on Melania’s ‘cold’ portrait with one user writing: ‘I got frostbite looking at this picture.’
‘She looks so militant in the way she dresses, her facial expressions, & body language,’ another said, while a third penned: ‘Apprentice vibes.’
The Washington Monument is visible in the background of the new snap of Melania. Belgian photographer Régine Mahaux, who is a fan favourite of the Trump family, took the image.
The feeling is clearly mutual, as the photographer gushed over Melania to the BBC. ‘I was really honoured to be chosen to shoot this official portrait for the second time.
‘As an artist to work with such an inspiring woman is a great privilege. She is a perfectionist and is really involved in the creative process.’
