Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Announces Engagement:
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced his engagement, making him the first Australian Prime Minister to get engaged while in office. Albanese proposed to his partner with a specially designed ring at The Lodge, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Canberra.

Sharing the news on his official social media handle, Albanese wrote, “She said yes.” The couple released a joint statement expressing their joy at sharing the news and their excitement about spending their lives together. They expressed gratitude for having met each other and for the support they have received.

Albanese met his partner, Hedden, in 2020 during a business dinner in Melbourne. Their engagement has been met with congratulations from their colleagues in the Australian parliament, including New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and renowned chef Nigel Lawson. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong also extended her best wishes, describing love as a beautiful thing.

Before this engagement, Albanese was previously married to former Deputy Premier of New South Wales, Carmel Tebbutt, with whom he shares a son named Nathan Albanese, now 23 years old. They divorced in 2019 after a 19-year marriage.

Albanese shared details of their meeting during a program in 2020, where Hedden’s enthusiasm for the South Sydney Rabbitohs caught his attention. Initially, they kept their relationship private, but Hedden later participated in Albanese’s electoral campaign in 2022. Since Albanese became Prime Minister, she has accompanied him on international tours.
