Authorities were called to the area of Bathurst Street and Avenal Drive just after 6 a.m. Police say a driver crashed into a utility pole near the Beth Tzedec Congregation synagogue and then abandoned the vehicle and fled the area on foot. Emergency crews were called to the Tam O’Shanter-Sullivan neighbourhood in Scarborough early Sunday morning for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle near Sheppard Avenue East and Warden Avenue. Police in Niagara Region are on the hunt for a group of armed suspects who are wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery. According to authorities, five masked suspects armed with guns arrived at an apartment near Lake Street and Welland Avenue in St. Catharines just before 4 a.m. on Friday. JOHN’S — An investigation into a Newfoundland junior hockey game that exploded into three brawls and racked up 572 minutes in penalties has resulted in sweeping suspensions, according to a league official. Boyd Hillier, vice-president of the St. John’s Junior Hockey League, said the violent game on March 7 between the St. John’s Junior Caps and the Southern Shore Junior Breakers was a “black eye” on hockey in the region. A 21-year-old Brampton man is in custody in connection with a fraud investigation targeting members of the South Asian community. Police in Peel Region say they began an investigation in the summer of 2025 following allegations that individuals with temporary immigration status were recruited by a man in order to commit fraud against financial institutions and automotive dealerships in the region. Investigators say the scheme involved using others to obtain credit products, such as high-value auto loans, with no intent to repay them. Police in Peel Region are searching for at least two suspects who attempted to steal an ATM from an all-night establishment in Brampton. Police say the suspects entered the business on Kennedy Road South near Steeles Avenue just before 3 a.m. on March 13. Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe says she was “surprised and shocked” to learn that a Waterloo Regional Police Service sniper was deployed as part of law enforcement’s efforts to manage an unsanctioned street party during St. Patrick’s Day weekend in the city’s university district.
